Feldspar can be replaced by other minerals and mineral mixtures of similar physical properties. Minerals that could be used to replace feldspar include pyrophyllite, clays, talc, and feldsparsilica (quartz) mixtures. The abundance of feldspar will make these substitutions unnecessary for the foreseeable future.

Shock metamorphism page. Shock metamorphism, shockmetamorphic effects or simply shock effects are the terms used to describe modifications in rocks and minerals caused by the passage of shock waves. In the following we will describe the most important effects starting with the highest stages of shockinduced pressures and temperatures.

Common silicate mineral. Responsible for the pink to red colors found in the igneous rock, granite. Common color is salmon, but can be found as a white or pale blueishgreen. Displays two directions of cleavage oriented at right angles to each other. Hardness of 6 on Mohs hardness scale. Can be scratched by a piece of quartz. Found in igneous rocks.

MINERALS: The minerals that form during metamorphism are in parts the same as those that we know from igneous rocks (we have to remember that the early differentiates form deeper in the earth under conditions of high pressure and temperature themselves). Thus quartz, biotite, muscovite, pyroxene, amphiboles and feldspars all form during ...

Rocks make up the majority of the Earth's crust. One of the most common rock is granite. The four minerals that make up granite are feldspar, quartz, mica, and hornblende. Granite was formed when magma cooled slowly forming crystals of the four minerals that make up the rock granite.

Hardness: Hardness is the resistance that a smooth surface of a mineral offers to abrasion. Like many other physical properties of minerals, hardness is dependent upon crystal structure. The hardness is expressed in terms of a relative scale from 1 to 10, each number being represented by a special mineral.

Hornblende schist, for example, is a variety of schist rich in the amphibole mineral hornblende, though the rock may also contain an abundance of plagioclase feldspar and other substances as well. Hornblende, like other members of the amphibole group, is a common rockforming mineral. In fact, hornblende is the most prevalent of all the amphiboles.
